UP man steals Shivling from temple on not finding bride despite prayers

A man in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district stole a Shivling from a temple after his prayers for finding a suitable match for marriage were not answered.

Throughout the duration of the month of Sawan this year, Chhotu visited the temple daily and prayed for a bride, a local said.

However, when he could not find a bride, he stole a Shivling from the ancient Bhairava Baba temple and hid it in some bushes not so far away from the temple.

The incident came to light when devotees arrived at the temple on the last day of Sawan, August 31. They found that the Shivling was missing and informed the police.

After 10 hours of search, police identified Chhotu as a suspect. Upon interrogation, he revealed that the Shivling was hidden 10-12 steps away from the temple.

Upon recovering the Shivling from the spot, police arrested Chhotu.

Locals told the police that Chhotu used to worship Lord Shiva at the temple every evening during the Sawan month and prayed for a bride.

Chhotu stole the Shivling as he was angry over not finding a bride, said inspector Abhishek Kumar.
